How to Measure Your Wall

Important considerations when measuring your wall to determine how much wallpaper to purchase

Measure the width

Use a tape measure to measure the full width of the wall from one side to the other. If the wall has multiple sections, such as windows or doors, measure the entire width of the wall and include these sections in the total measurement.

Measure the height

Measure from floor to ceiling to get the height of the wall. To ensure all wallpaper strips are the same length, always measure the highest point if there are variations in ceiling height. Add an extra 5–10 centimeters to the height. This gives you enough room to adjust the wallpaper at both the ceiling and floor, especially if either is slightly uneven.

Always measure the highest point

If the room has varying height, use the highest point as a reference when calculating how much wallpaper you’ll need. This ensures that all wallpaper strips are the same length and that you have enough material to cover the entire wall, with the flexibility to arrange the pattern as desired.

Have you completed all measurements?

Now you’re ready to order. Don’t forget to always add 5-10 centimeters to your measurements to get a little extra wallpaper beyond the wall’s surface. It’s always good to have some margin, allowing you to adjust the wallpaper up, down, or sideways if needed.

Calculate square meters

Multiply the width by the height of the wall to get the total area in square meters. This helps you determine how much wallpaper you’ll need. However, this isn’t necessary, as the square meters are automatically calculated when placing your order on Linlava.
